On the fourth fay of Navratri Maa Kushmanda is prayed to. According to the Bhagwat Puran, she is the adi shakti. Praying to her brings fame, prosperity and immense fortune. She also makes her devotees fearless and healthy. Maa Kushmanda has eight arms and is also called Ashtabhuja devi. In each hand she holds a bow, an arrow, a lotus, a pot full of amrit, gada, chaka, beads and an ewer.
She rides a lion and portrays fierocity. People believe that she created the entire universe with her soft smile and hence her name is Kushmanda. On the fourth day of Navratri, Maa Kushmanda is prayed to. Thethe one who created the universe when there was darkness all around.
It is believed that she resides inside the sun and gives the universe it’s light and energy. The glow and radiance of her body is as luminous as that of the Sun.
