Zumba is the latest trend in town for all those who are seeking something fun to get in shape. Going to the gym and running on a treadmill is way too old school for the people of today and hence, this wonderful Latin dance inspired fitness program is catching every one’s eye. Founded by Colombia-based fitness instructor Alberto “Beto” Perez, Zumba is a combination of aerobics and the Latin dance. You just keep dancing and maintaining a high heart rate to burn those extra calories.

If you are a beginner and have never tried your hands on dancing before, here are a few lessons for you to learn. The few basic Dos and Don’ts for you to follow if you choose Zumba as your fitness regime.

Wear the clothes which will give you the room to move

Comfort is the key. When you will give yourself comfortable attire, your body will be able to move freely while dancing. Dry fit clothes are best as they will absorb all the sweat and won’t hug you too tightly. A water bottle and a small towel are a must if you plan on sweating a lot, which you will do, if you will sincerely follow the steps.

Begin Slowly

When you start going to a Zumba class, don’t stress yourself by taking 6 classes in a week. Just take two to three classes in the beginning and let yourself get used to working out. Your body will slowly build stamina and your endurance will improve with time. Once you find yourself capable enough of managing six classes, then only sign up for a stressful week.

Shoe Management

This Latin dance fitness classes involves a fair amount of twisting, swiveling, and turning. For you to be able to move freely, you need shoes which do not get stuck on the bottom. Dance sneakers are your best choice because they provide cushioning for the more high impact movements and can make you swivel easily for the Latin style moves.

Eat your pack of nutrition before your class

Since dancing will take up lots of your energy, you need to make sure that your body has all the nutrition to work with. You can eat a handful of nuts or your protein shake would be a good option too. You will get a kick of energy while working out and you will not easily be tired.


Drink lots of water at least 2 hours before your workout. Your body will release lots of toxins while sweating, so you need to make sure that you are not dehydrated. Keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water almost two hours before  your workout. Just take a sip or two while dancing though.
